About AAIS
The The African Association of Insect Scientists (AAIS) was founded on December 01, 1978 and legally registered by the late eminent Professor Thomas Risley Odhiambo, in Kenya.
The AAIS is a pan-African association founded to promote insect science and its applications in Africa, fostering communication and information exchange among members and affiliates. Insect science research is a key area that contributes to increasing agricultural productivity and competitiveness in Africa, and ultimately improving national income. This takes into account scientific observations, knowledge and data to solving problems related to insects and develop new products and technologies.
The objectives of the association are as follows:
- Promote communication and exchange information between members, and between affiliated companies;
- Organize inter-African scientific meetings;
- Participate and be the framework for regional meetings and international entomological congresses;
- Publish a scientific journal that will serve the interests of insect science researchers in Africa and elsewhere in the world;
- Other activities include:
- Collaboration with national and international organizations in projects with entomological focus;
- Participation in the dynamic to improve standards of entomological education in Africa;
- Organization or participation in expeditions collecting or studying African insects;
- Organization of revision work on groups of African insects by African or foreigner specialists;
- Serve as an advisory body in forums which concern research grants, scholarships and other purposes.
